Three questions to ask for a Climate Resilient Business

How will a changing climate impact my business?

Will customers, investors or regulators think my business is part of the problem?

Will customers, investors or regulators think my business is part of the problem?

A changing climate is already impacting your business, but often it's not obvious until it's too late.  Building RESILANCE can  mitigate risks and identify challenges early when it's cheaper and easier to  plan and act instead of reacting to a crisis.

Worldwide changes are disrupting:

* Operations & Real Estate

* Customer behavior & perceptions

* Suppliers & Logistics

World consensus is that Greenhous Gas emissions are a primary driver of climate change.  It makes business sense to measure your company's GHG emissions and identify opportunities to mitigate  or eliminate them.  Experience is showing that doing this thoughtfully can lead to significant cost reductions and operational improvements that may not have been evident while opening doors to financial resources & investments.  Plus these efforts will protect your brand by showing stakeholders that you're doing your part.

What business opportunities might exist if we were part of the solution?

Will customers, investors or regulators think my business is part of the problem?

What business opportunities might exist if we were part of the solution?

From new products to new markets to new business models, disruption creates opportunities along with the challenges.  Companies (and leaders) who understand the key drivers and how a changing climate is impacting their business and their customers  can respond with innovation.

For them, sustainable business strategy drives growth .

The historic fire lookout at the summit of Mount Pilchuck was built in 1918 and staffed until 1961. It was later restored by volunteers from the Everett Mountaineers.

At 5,344 ft, Mount Pilchuck is located about 40 miles north of Seattle, WA in the Mount Pilchuck State Park, and is now surrounded by the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.  This was historically within the traditional lands of the Coast Salish Indigenous people, specifically the territories of the Tulalip Tribes and Stillaguamish Tribe.

This is one of the most popular hikes in the region due to easy access, and panoramic views of the Cascade range to the east, and the Puget Sound to the west. (image via Wikipedia)

The name for the mountain comes from Chinook Jargon and is a combination of two words: pʰil, meaning "red," and tsəqw, meaning "water" or "river." The name possibly comes from the fact that many of the rivers that come from the mountain are rich in iron, which can cause the water to look orangish-red.

Lushootseed is the primary indigenous language and their word for the mountain means "navel." It has also been recorded as bəlalwəʔ and bəlawəʔ.
